Yeia sas!! That's Greek for hello. Here I am looking down on Rhodes, once considered one of the ancient world's most beautiful cities. The city was walled to protect it from Turkish invaders. There is a castle in the middle of the old town and wonderful sandy beaches.
Even though I'm not in this picture, I still think it's cool. A UFO over Rhodes!! Not really, she just forgot to turn off the flash. This is a photo of the bay and just past the wall is the New Town. It's filled with pedestrian streets, gold smiths and small cafes. Lots of fun to walk and look around.
This wall is almost 7 hundred years old. Do you think you could build something that would last that long???
Behind me you can see 2 columns in the water. On top of each is a statue of a deer and it is said that the Greeks erected the Colossus of Rhodes at this spot. This was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
I am so hard to see in this picture and I am not even trying to hide! These are the remnants of the Acropolis of Rhodes. Acropolis comes from two Greek words - acro means top and polis means city - top of the city. There was a temple here in honor of the God of the sun.
The streets in the old town are all made of stones. Look close, can you see??? Oh, my poor hooves!! I walked up streets and I walked down streets - I can tell you the forest is easier on my feet!!
Antio!! That's Greek for good bye.
