Hello from ancient Greece. Perhaps I should review our trip so far. We flew by plane (
Silly Sandy!! Of course you flew by plane- you couldn't use a space shuttle or hot air balloon.) Las Vegas to Charlotte, North Carolina and then into Rome. We spent the night in Rome and then drove 1 hour to Citivecchia, Italy to board the ship. We sailed at 6:00 PM and spent the next day at sea. We arrived in the port near Athens, Greece this morning around 9 and began a tour of the city. The ship left Athens tonight around 6 and we will sail this evening to reach Rhodes, Greece. I'll send more information from there. Sandy

This is me with Bob outside the ship. Sorry you need to turn your head, but if you look closely, you can see Bob does not look very happy. I don't know why he acts like this when it is his turn to adore me. I am a very handsome moose!!

Here we are on a hill in the Acropolis with the Parthenon in the background. Greece is referred to as the "Cradle of Western Civilization" and the "Birthplace of Democracy". Many of our words come from the Greek language. The first two letters of the Greek alphabet are "Alpha" and "Beta". If you put these words together, can you think of a common word we often use at school?
Here I am with a beautiful view of the city of Athens behind me. I think I look rather natural in this setting, don't you?
This is the temple Erechtheum. It is one of the most elegant and the columns are statues of young maidens, the Korai. We bought some books with pictures you will be able to see in the library.
Standing in front of the Parthenon, a beautiful temple visible from all over Athens.
Here I am standing next to a guard in front of the President's Palace. He pretended he didn't even notice me. He didn't blink or move- imagine ignoring me!
I thought you might enjoy a photo of the Mall from ancient Greece, It was called the agora and was an open air market. Food and items from all over the known world were sold here in shops - a little like the Galleria Mall. |
